GemChain does not store a single database of gemstones. It records each stone's history as a chain of events, written by the participant who performed each step, across three public blockchains.

As the stone moves to a cutter, treater, trader or retailer, the participant with the matching role records the work performed and the next custody holder.
An approved gem laboratory can issue a certificate on Cardano. If it is later revoked, that change remains visible instead of being removed.
Aptos maintains the hash-linked event log. Its accumulator root is periodically anchored to Ethereum so the two records can be compared independently.
Anyone can enter a GemChain ID to recompute the history and inspect certificate status without relying solely on a marketplace description.
The current on-chain owner can publish a listing. Buyers and sellers coordinate requests directly; GemChain does not hold funds.
